Facelift for RMD in the UK

The radar monitoring system of UK’s air navigation service provider NATS has passed site acceptance tests (SAT) in August after significant upgrade of hardware and software.

WHITELEY, SWANWICK/UK, September 2009 – NATS’ radar monitoring display (RMD) provided by German COMSOFT received major facelift after 13 years of continuous and dependable operation. The upgrade included the rehosting of the software onto a state-of-the-art operating system and new hardware allowing the integration of latest surveillance sources such as Mode-S radars, ADS-B and Multilateration. The taken advancements now add up to a tremendous increase of operational efficiency with interfaces to up to six independent data sources and the simultaneous display of radar plots and ARTAS tracks.

In August successful site acceptance tests have been conducted at the sites Whiteley and Swanwick now presenting a new quality of surveillance monitoring regarding the about thirty involved radar sites and trackers in the UK.

RMD is a surveillance data display system with special features for technical monitoring, supporting an integrated data recording and replay, low level analysis, raw picture support and automatic adaption to different radars. The PC-based system can be operated with off-the-shelf hardware and supports almost any surveillance format.

COMSOFT GmbH and NATS ltd. share strong business ties having accomplished a multitude of joint projects together since 1995.
